Hi, I’m Emily!
I’m a 200 hour certified yoga instructor and am continuously expanding my knowledge of movement and mindfulness. I have completed a 50 hour yoga w/ weights certified and I have an additional 155 hours in continuing education including studying under Janet Stone. I have also furthered studied Gentle Yoga and Chair yoga through Yoga Vista Academy and began studying mat Pilates through BASI, which enriches my classes with more core and strengthening.
I grew up dancing so I’ve always felt a connection to movement and attaching it with deeper meaning. It instilled an appreciation for connecting music, grace, and alignment yet I realized can be quite hard on the body. At 17 years old, I realized that I wanted to pursue a practice that I could sustain for the rest of my life and that is when I discovered yoga. Like many of us, I was drawn to the physical practice (asana) and noticed subtle changes in the way I felt both physically and mentally. By the end of my last year in college at UC Santa Barbara, I decided it was time to go deeper and learn more by taking a teacher training at the CorePower Yoga in Santa Barbara. I decided to not teach immediately after since I felt that I had more to learn and more confidence to build. I embarked on my own self-study to deepen my own practice and find what yoga meant to me.
I finally took the leap to start teaching in 2017, while on a working holiday in Australia. I found a beautiful studio called Vartamana in Airlie Beach, Queensland that was located in a marina with an amazing view of the water and sailboats (connecting my three favorite things- yoga, the ocean and sailing). It was a profound experience of putting myself out there and learning that all it takes is a little bit of courage and stepping outside of your comfort zone to pursue your goals.
I am currently residing in Long Beach, CA and teaching at the Belmont Athletic Club and RA Yoga Long Beach. My aim is to empower those in my class to personalize their practice and find their own layer and expression. I focus on creating a safe space to explore yoga and often provide many modifications and various expressions so you can discover what best suits you. I enjoy teaching a nourishing yin class, a supportive gentle yoga as well as a challenging (and sweaty) vinyasa flow.
I hope to see you on the mat!
Namaste.
