Santosha (Contentment)

Chinese proverb: People in the West are always getting ready to live.

Santosha. Contentment. Being with the present moment no matter what it is- boredom, joy, stuck in traffic. Oftentimes, we find ourselves feeling a sense of lack or not enoughness. We will be successful, complete or whole once X, Y or Z is in place. I notice this in myself when I think that I will have my life together once I have completed graduate school or that I will be a better yoga instructor once I have taken another course, read another book. Or maybe the sense of waiting for a moment to be over so your real life can start. I’ve noticed many of us experience this at work- waiting for the evening or the weekend or your next holiday.

Journaling suggestion: Where in your mind are you waiting to live? Could you choose to be content with the present moment and treat it is as enough?
